UGC NET Management Eligibility

It is mandatory for the candidates to know the Eligibility for UGC NET Management as it makes them know whether they are eligible to attempt the UGC NET Management examination. Below listed are the category-wise eligibility criteria for UGC NET Management.

  • General Category: Candidate should have scored a minimum of 55% marks in post-graduation (master degree course) in the specific subject or any equivalent examination from a UGC-recognized institute/college or university.
  • Other Category: A candidate belongs to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with disability (PwD) and who has scored a minimum of 55% marks in post-graduation (master degree course) in the concerned subject or any other equivalent examination from a UGC recognized institute/college or university can appear for this exam.
  • Candidates from Final Year: Candidates pursuing their post-graduation or who have already given the exam and awaiting the results are eligible to apply for the UGC NET exam. Initially, they can provide the provisional certificate to get the eligibility for Assistant Professor or for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). But they will have to submit their result and degree within a year from the date of the exam. The degree must be completed within a time span of 2 years from the UGC NET Management result date.
  • Transgender category: Candidates can be eligible to get some relaxation in fee, age, and qualifying criteria for NET Management for both JRF and Assistant Professor as available to SC/ST/PwD categories. The cut-off list of all the subjects under this category must be low in all SC/ST/PwD/OBC–NCL categories in their specific subject. 
  • Ph.D. Degree holders: Ph.D. degree holders who have completed this degree after 1991(date of declaration of result does not matter) are eligible for a relaxation of 5% in total marks which is from 55% to 50% for General Candidates.
  • Foreign Students: Candidates having certificates or degrees - Post-graduate diploma, Institute or foreign degree/diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University, Certificate awarded by Indian University. Ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/ with a Master’s degree from any recognized Indian universities from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.

Age Limit Criteria for UGC NET Management

The age limit criteria are different from lectureships. Following are the Eligibility for UGC NET Management which needs to be followed under the age limit criteria:

  •  As per the NET JRF eligibility criteria, a candidate must not be above 31 years of age for being the JRF (Junior Researcher Fellowship) on the first day of the month of application.

  • For assistant professors / lectureship, there is no upper age limit for the same.

Eligibility for UGC NET Management - Nationality

Candidates should be aware of the Nationality wise eligibility criteria for the UGC NET Management exam. The Eligibility for UGC NET Management for citizenship is listed below:

  • All Indian citizens who have completed their post-graduation with 55% aggregate can apply for the UGC NET Management exam.
  • All the NRI, OCI, and PIO students are allowed to apply for the exam, subject to educational qualifications prescribed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
  • Also, foreign candidates are eligible for appearing in the UGC NET Management exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) if they have finished their postgraduate from 55% percent.

Candidates can check the selection process before appearing for the exam, and based on the score in the written test, candidates will be called for UGC NET counseling.

Eligibility for UGC NET Management - Educational Qualification

The educational qualifications requirements of the Eligibility for UGC NET Management are as follows:

  • All the students who have completed their master’s or equivalent degree from institutions/universities with at least 55% aggregate mark recognized by UGC.
  • Candidates of the general category who wish to apply for the UGC NET exam have to secure a minimum of 55% marks from UGC while it is 50% for scheduled caste, ST, ST, OBC, PwD, and transgender candidates.
  • Candidates who have passed their degree from master’s or equivalent on or before 19th September 1991 will be having a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks for appearing in the UGC NET Exam.

Eligibility for UGC NET Management - Number of Attempts

Candidates must know the number of attempts that can be made for the UGC NET Management exam. The number of attempts differs from JRF and Lectureship, the details regarding the same as per the Eligibility for UGC NET Management are listed below:

  • Junior Research Fellowship: JRF exam eligibility criteria indicate that candidates who have pursued their master’s degree from a recognised college or university can apply for the JRF Exam of the specific UGC NET subject to three attempts limited by the National Testing Agency (NTA). 
  • For Assistant Professor: There is no such limit for the UGC NET Management Assistant Professor post, and candidates can attempt the UGC NET Management exam any number of times subject to the educational qualifications.

UGC NET Management Exam Eligibility - Exemptions

There are certain exemptions that the candidates need to know in terms of Eligibility for UGC NET Management. The details regarding the exemptions are listed below in detail.

  • Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) exam conducted by the respective state before 1st June 2002 are eligible to apply for lectureship across the country after the exam.
  • Candidates who have cleared PhD under the UGC regulations 2009 are exempted from the eligibility of UGC NET for lectureship in institutions, universities, and colleges.
  • Aspirants who have cleared the UGC /CSIR JRF examination before 1989 are not eligible to appear for the UGC NET Management Exam.

Reservation Criteria for UGC NET Management

Candidates must be knowing the reservation criteria for all the categories. Reservation criteria for all the categories are listed below as per the Eligibility for UGC NET Management:

  • General category: Minimum 40% in 1st Paper, 40% in 2nd Paper and 50% in 3rd Paper.
  • SC/ST/OBC/PWD Categories: 35% in 1st Paper, 35% in 2nd Paper and 40% in 3rd Paper.
  • 15% of the total seats are reserved for the SC students.
  • 27% seats are reserved for OBC students.
  • 3% are reserved for persons with disability PWD category.
  • 7.5% of the total seats are reserved for the ST students
  • 47.5% of seats are available for the General category students.

Important Points to Remember

  • An aspirant will only be considered for the JRF and lectureship after passing the required percentage within 2 years of the UGC NET Result declaration and can check the result UGC NET Result.
  • A candidate can still apply to the UGC NET Exam even if the degree of the master's is awaited.
  • Candidates are only required to mention their category in the form and relevant certificates at the time of admission.
