Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFCD Drive contains a laser.
The use of laser in CD drive is:
- CD drives are also called optical disc drives because they use laser light or electromagnetic waves to read or write data to or from a CD.
- An infrared laser with a wavelength of 780 nanometers (nm) is employed in the CD drive.
- A laser is used to transfer digital data (a long sequence of ones and zeros) to this disc by literally burning small ‘pits’ into the surface, with untouched areas (called ‘lands’) representing ones and burned areas representing zeros.
- A CD drive uses a laser beam to read the data from the disk as it is spinning. It distinguishes between the pits and lands based on how the light reflects off the recording material.
