Given:

24 men complete a work in 9 days.

8 more men join after 3 days.

Concept:

Man-days is a unit representing the work done by one person in one day.

Solution:

⇒ Total man-days required = 24 men × 9 days = 216 man-days

⇒ Man-days spent in the first 3 days = 24 men × 3 days = 72 man-days

⇒ Remaining man-days = 216 man-days - 72 man-days = 144 man-days

⇒ Total men after 3 days = 24 men + 8 men = 32 men

⇒ Remaining days = Remaining man-days/Total men = 144 man-days/32 men = 4.5 days

Hence, all of them will take an additional 4.5 days to complete the remaining work.
