NDA Eligibility 2025

The National Defence Academy (NDA) exam, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) at the national level, has specific eligibility criteria that candidates must meet. NDA Eligibility Criteria 2025

Candidates must meet certain requirements for NDA Eligibility. The application will be rejected if these criteria are not met. Both men and women can apply if they meet the criteria. The minimum requirements are:

  • Only unmarried male/female candidates born not earlier than 2nd July, 2006 and not later than 01st July, 2009 are eligible.
  • The educational qualification for the Army Wing of NDA is a passing certificate in the 10+2 exam.
  • Candidates must clear Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Maths to apply for the Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA.
  • Candidates have to clear 12th Standard or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to qualify for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Naval Academy.

NDA Age Limit

For the NDA exam, candidates must meet strict age criteria between 15 and 18 years old as of specific dates in the year of application, which is typically from 2nd July, 2006 to 01st July, 2009 are eligible. Additionally, they must be unmarried and provide a birth certificate or equivalent document that matches the date of birth entered in their application form. Only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible, and no other documents related to age, such as horoscopes or affidavits, will be accepted as proof of age. NDA Educational Qualification

For eligibility to the National Defence Academy (NDA), candidates must fulfill specific educational qualifications based on the academy and wing they are applying to. For the Army Wing, a 12th Class pass under the 10+2 education pattern from a recognized State Education Board or University is required, with a minimum percentage of 60%. Similarly, for the Air Force and Naval Wings, along with the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy, candidates need a 12th Class pass with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized State Education Board or University, also with a minimum percentage of 60%. NDA Nationality

The applicant must belong to one of the categories mentioned below to be eligible for the NDA exam. The applicants who belong to any of the following should have official proof of their nationality in the form of a valid document issued by the government of India. If you do not do so, even after selection, the candidate will be debarred as he doesn't fit into the NDA Eligibility Criteria.

  • Citizen of India
  • Subject of Bhutan
  • Subject of Nepal
  • Tibetan refugees who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 to permanently settle in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated intending to permanently settle in India from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam

NDA Exam Eligibility for Physical Standards

Applicants planning to apply for the NDA 2025 recruitment should be physically fit. The NDA eligibility criteria include physical standards where the candidates go through a medical examination. If the candidates aren't found in proper health or physically/medically fit as per the UPSC NDA guideline then their application will be rejected.   • Sitting Height: The minimum of 81.50 cm and the maximum is 96 cm
  • Leg Length: The minimum of 99 cms and maximum of 120 cms
  • Thigh Length: Maximum of 64 cms

Only candidates with verifiable evidence of national-level bodybuilding, wrestling, or boxing will be allowed to lift weights over the maximum. In such circumstances, the following requirements must be met.

  • Males should have a waist-to-hip ratio of less than 0.9
  • Males should have a waist circumference of less than 90 cm
  • The BMI should be under 25.

NDA Exam Eligibility Criteria for Medical Requirements

In addition to physical standards, candidates must meet certain medical requirements. Some important conditions to note include:

1. Dental Conditions

In the UPSC NDA guidelines, candidates must have proper medical and physical conditions. Take note of the below-mentioned dental conditions that should not be present in any candidate. If yes, it can lead to disqualification of the candidature. Therefore, read the points carefully.

  • Progressive or recurring pathological diseases of the jaws lead to rejection.
  • Significant jaw disparities affecting mastication and speech will result in rejection.
  • Symptomatic Temporomandibular Disorder causing clicking, soreness, and mouth opening restriction results in rejection.
  • Malignant conditions and submucous fibrosis with or without mouth-opening restriction lead to rejection.
  • Poor dental health with visible calculus, periodontal pockets, and gum bleeding results in rejection.
  • More than two loose teeth lead to rejection.
  • Candidates who had cosmetic or post-traumatic maxillofacial surgery/trauma will be rejected for at least 24 weeks after the surgery/injury date.

2. Spinal Conditions

Candidates must not have the following spinal diseases for NDA exam eligibility. If you have a spinal disease that is not mentioned in the list below, it may lead to a special diagnosis but it depends upon the discretion of the NDA exam authority.

Criteria for Spinal Conditions
Disease Description
Spondylolisthesis/spondylolysis A condition where one vertebra slips out of place onto the vertebra below it. Spondylolysis is a crack or stress fracture in one of the vertebrae.
Compression fracture of vertebrae A fracture that occurs when a vertebra in the spine collapses due to injury or disease, such as osteoporosis.
SC Heuerman's disease (Adolescent kyphosis) Also known as Scheuermann kyphosis, a condition of hyperkyphosis that involves the vertebral bodies and discs of the spine identified by anterior wedging of greater than or equal to 5 degrees in 3 or more adjacent vertebral bodies.
Degenerative Disc Disease A condition where the discs between the vertebrae of the spine break down, leading to pain, weakness, and numbness.
Presence of Schmorl's nodes at more than one level Schmorl's nodes are small protrusions of the intervertebral disc into the vertebral body. Their presence at more than one level can indicate degenerative changes in the spine.
Atlantooccipital and atlantoaxial anomalies Anomalies or malformations in the joint between the skull and the first cervical vertebra (atlantooccipital joint) or the joint between the first and second cervical vertebrae (atlantoaxial joint).
Loss of cervical lordosis when associated with clinically restricted movements of the cervical spine Cervical lordosis refers to the natural curvature of the cervical spine. Loss of cervical lordosis can indicate a problem with the spine, especially when it is associated with restricted movements of the cervical spine.
Unilateral / Bilateral cervical ribs with demon stable neurological or circulatory deficit Cervical ribs are extra ribs that grow from the neck vertebrae. They are usually harmless, but in some cases, they can cause neurological or circulatory problems.
Arthritis/spondylosis A general term for degenerative changes in the spine, including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, spondylosis, and degenerative joint disease. It can also refer to non-articular rheumatism, such as lesions of the rotator cuff, tennis elbow, recurrent lumbago, etc.
Hemi vertebrae and/or incomplete block (fused) vertebrae at any level in the cervical, dorsal or lumbar spine and complete block (fused) vertebrae at more than one level in the cervical or dorsal spine Hemi vertebrae are partial vertebrae that do not form completely. Incomplete block vertebrae are partially fused vertebrae. Complete block vertebrae are fully fused vertebrae. These conditions can occur at any level in the cervical, dorsal, or lumbar spine.
Scoliosis is more than 15 degrees as measured by Cobb's method Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves sideways. Cobb's method is a way to measure the degree of curvature in the spine. A scoliosis curve of more than 15 degrees is considered significant.
Unilateral sacralisation or lumbarisation (complete or incomplete) at all levels and bilateral incomplete sacralisation or lumbarisation Sacralisation and lumbarisation are conditions where the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of the spine) or the lumbar vertebrae (the lower back) fuse together. Unilateral sacralisation or lumbarisation refers to the fusion of only one side, while bilateral incomplete sacralisation or lumbarisation refers to the fusion of both sides but not completely.
Mention of any other disease by the specialist The specialist may mention other diseases or conditions that affect the spine, such as granulomatous disease of the spine.

3. Central Nervous System (CNS) Conditions

The following table lists the acceptable and not acceptable conditions for the central nervous system for candidates applying for the NDA exam, according to the search results:

CNS Condition Description
Mental illness/psychological afflictions A candidate giving a history of mental illness/psychological afflictions requires detailed investigation and psychiatric referral. Such cases should normally be rejected.
Personality and stability Every examiner should form a general impression of the candidate’s personality as a whole and may enquire into an individual’s stability and habitual reactions to difficult and stressful situations.
Family history and prior medication use Family history and prior history of using medication are also relevant.
Insomnia, phobias, nightmares, sleepwalking, or bedwetting History of insomnia, phobias, nightmares, or frequent sleepwalking or bedwetting, when recurrent or persistent, will be a cause for rejection.
Headaches Common types of recurrent headaches are those due to former head injury or migraine. Other forms of occasional headaches must be considered in relation to their probable cause. A candidate with a migraine, which was severe enough to make him consult his doctor, should normally be a cause for rejection.
Migraine with visual disturbance or Migrainous epilepsy Even a single attack of migraine with visual disturbance or Migrainous epilepsy is to be made unfit.

4. NDA Medical Standards for Female

Conditions That Will Entail Female Candidates Being Declared Unfit

  • Amenorrhoea, either primary or secondary
  • Severe menorrhagia and/or dysmenorrhea
  • Urinary incontinence due to stress
  • Cervical elongation or prolapse that occurs outside the introitus even after corrective surgery.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Any size complex ovarian cyst.
  • A simple ovarian cyst measuring more than six centimetres in diameter.
  • Adenomyosis and Endometriosis
  • Any size submucous fibroid.
  • Any size broad ligament or cervical fibroid putting pressure on the ureter.
  • A single fibroid uterus that is more than three centimetres in diameter; fibroids that are more than two in number (each fibroid not more than fifteen millimetres in diameter); or fibroids that cause endometrial cavity deformation.
  • Except for the arcuate uterus, and congenital uterine abnormalities.
  • Infection of the pelvis, either acute or chronic.
  • Sexual differentiation disorders
  • The Gynaecologist will assess any additional condition on its own merits.

Case of Body Tattoos for NDA Eligibility

Candidates need to go by the guidelines mentioned by the NDA exam governing body in order to understand whether body tattoos are allowed and if allowed, under what circumstances. In the notification, details regarding tattoos is explained.

Note: Tattoos are only allowed on the inner forearm and back of the hand. Tattoos on any other part of the body will result in disqualification. However, candidates from tribes with traditional facial or body tattoos may be allowed on a case-by-case basis, to be approved by the Commandant Selection Centre.

X-Ray Exam for NDA Eligibility 2025

The UPSC will release the guidelines for physical criteria on the official webiste. Here, we have mentioned the X-ray exam that will help you to refrain from committing any mistake that can lead to rejection of the candidature. Candidates must be free of any of the minor ailments mentioned below.

  • Atlanto-occipital and atlantoaxial anomalies
  • Cervical ribs with demonstrable neurological or Circulatory deficit
  • Arthritis/spondylosis
  • Scoliosis is more than 15 degrees as measured by Cobb’s Method (10 degrees for Army and Navy).
  • Presence of Schmorl’s node at more than one level
  • Incomplete Sacralisation Unilateral or Bilateral
  • Spina Bifida other than SV 1 and LV 5 if completely Sacralised
  • Any other abnormality, if so considered by specialist
  • Spondylolisthesis / Spondylosis / Spondylolysis
  • Herniated nucleus pulposus
  • Compression fracture of Vertebra
  • Granulomatous disease of the spine.
  • More than mild Kyphosis/Lordosis
  • Sacralisation Disease

Note: Candidate should not have a history of mental breakdowns or fits, according to the NDA eligibility 2025 and must have good physical and mental health and should be free from diseases and disabilities

Other Medical Restrictions

There are a few medical conditions under which candidates are not allowed to sit for the NDA exam 2025. Take reference from the points stated below.

  • There should be no signs of a fragile constitution or physical defects.
  • A well-developed chest is required of candidates.
  • The bones and joints should be in good working order.
  • There is no history of medical problems or fits.
  • Candidates must be able to hear normally.
  • There is no speech impediment.
  • Blood pressure is normal, and there are no symptoms of heart disease or blood vessel disease.
  • There is no enlargement of the liver or spleen.
  • There are no skin infections and no defects in the urine.
  • The USG abdomen test found no anomalies.
  • Routine ECG for Air Force applicants must fall within standard limits if they have sufficient natural and sound teeth.
