Given:

x + y = 7

xy = 19

Formula Used:

(x + y)2 = x2 + y2 + 2xy

Calculation:

x + y = 7

Squaring both sides

⇒ (x + y)2 = 72

⇒ x2 + y2 + 2xy = 49

⇒ x2 + y2 = 49 - 2 × 19

⇒ x2 + y2 = 11

∴ The value of x2 + y2 is 11.
