National Conference President Farooq Abdullah called for the urgent need for unity among Muslims worldwide. While praising the ongoing struggles in Palestine and Iran, Abdullah urged Muslims to come together in a collective fight against oppression and injustice.
Joined by his grandsons, Zameer and Zahid Abdullah, the former Chief Minister participated in the 10th Muharram procession in the Zadibal area of Srinagar, where they distributed water and juice to the mourners.
While shedding light on Imam Hussein’s sacrifice at Karbala, Abdullah said, “The message of solidarity with the Islamic world and with Palestine and Iran is that Muslims must unite against all evils for an Islamic struggle; only then will peace come to the world.” He added that Karbala has shown us the path of truth and the sacrifices Muslims have made for the sake of humanity.
Farooq Abdullah furthermore said that Karbala’s message of resilience are relevant in today’s context as well, representing resilience against tyranny and oppression, which many Muslim countries are currently facing currently due to the silence of world powers over this injustice.
